Our doctors and staff are some of the region’s leading specialists in neurosurgery and pain management, with a distinguished track record of quality care.  



Dr. Stephen Rawe
Dr. Rawe graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed his residency in neurological surgery at Yale Medical Center and earned a PhD in neuroanatomy from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where he served as an associate professor. While on staff at MUSC, he established a minimally invasive microsurgical pituitary practice and obtained NIH research funding for experimental spinal cord trauma. Dr. Rawe is board certified in neurosurgery and has been instrumental in introducing new technology to Charleston. He was the first neurosurgeon in the Charleston area to perform pedicle screw instrumentation, kyphoplasty for osteoporotic compression fractures and artificial cervical disc surgery. He continues to be involved in innovative spinal fusion techniques and has extensive experience with the interspinous process distraction for spinal stenosis. Dr. Rawe is an active member and past president of the South Carolina Association of Neurological Surgeons and is a founding member of the South Carolina Spine Society and served as its first president.
Dr. George Khoury
Dr. Khoury is a long-term member of the lowcountry healthcare community. He completed his residency and internship in neurological surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He is board certified in neurological surgery and has advanced expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of brain and spinal abnormalities, specializing in neurological surgery of the cervical, lumbar and thoracic spines. Dr. Khoury holds leadership positions in the South Carolina Spine Society and the South Carolina Association of Neurological Surgeons. He is chairman of the Bon Secours St. Francis Department of Neurosurgery.
Dr. Brian Cuddy
Dr. Cuddy graduated from Albany Medical College and completed his internship in general surgery and residency in neurological surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Following completion of his residency training, he completed a fellowship in spinal surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He is board certified in neurological surgery and holds an appointment as clinical professor of neurosurgery at MUSC and an adjunct associate professor of bioengineering at Clemson University. In July of 2000, he was appointed by the South Carolina governor as chairman of the South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Research Fund. He is an active member of several national neurosurgical societies and is a past president of the South Carolina Spine Society. Dr. Cuddy currently serves as chief of staff for Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital and Chairman of the Roper St. Francis Physician Partners Board.
Dr. John Steichen
Dr. Steichen graduated with honors from Harvard Medical School and completed his internship in general surgery and residency in neurosurgery at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Neurological Surgery and a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Steichen moved to Charleston in 2003 after practicing as a clinical neurosurgeon in the Upstate of South Carolina. His interest and expertise is in applying individualized state-of-the-art neurosurgical care to advance the well being of patients suffering from spinal and cranial disorders.
Dr. Byron Bailey
Dr. Bailey has been a member of the Charleston medical community for more than 23 years. He is a graduate of the University of South Alabama College of Medicine and Erskine College. Dr. Bailey completed his residency and internship at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) where he served as an associate professor in the department of Neurological Surgery. He specializes in spine and cerebrovascular surgery. Dr. Bailey is board certified in neurological surgery and is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
Dr. Morgan Stuart
Dr. Stuart earned his undergraduate degree from Duke University and his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in neurological surgery at the prestigious Neurological Institute of New York at Columbia University Medical Center. While at Columbia University, Dr. Stuart conducted research in advanced neuro-monitoring techniques for acute brain injury and has authored numerous scientific publications and book chapters. A Charleston native, Dr. Stuart specializes in all aspects of spine surgery, as well as the management of primary and metastatic brain tumors. He also uses advanced technology such as frameless image guidance systems and stereotactic Cyber Knife radiosurgery. Dr. Stuart believes that dedication both to the best in surgical advancements and to the quality of the physician-patient relationship allows him to provide the optimum opportunity for helping patients deal with complex neurosurgical problems. Dr. Stuart has recently been appointed Vice President of the South Carolina Association of Neurological Surgeons (SCANS).
Dr. James Reilly Keffer
Dr. Keffer is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and specializes in the non-operative/conservative treatment of patients with neck pain, low back pain, sciatica and various other musculoskeletal conditions. He completed medical school at Des Moines University and his residency at the University Hospitals of Columbia Presbyterian and Cornell. He did a spine/musculoskeletal fellowship at New England Baptist Hospital. Dr. Keffer emphasizes the importance of exercise and high-quality physical therapy in the rehabilitation of those with sub-acute and chronic neck and low back pain. Dr. Keffer also performs spine injection procedures, as well as other procedures to treat musculoskeletal pain.
Cindy Anderson, APRN, ACNP
Cindy Anderson, a nurse practitioner, has more than 25 years of experience in nursing. She earned her associate degree in nursing at Baptist College of Charleston, her bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and her post-graduate Acute Care Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of South Carolina. As our practice’s nurse practitioner, Cindy assists in the operating room, in admitting and discharging patients, consults, rounding, and patient and family education. She examines patients during follow-up visits and is available to talk to patients about any concerns they may have. Cindy is also active in critical care in the Tricounty areas.
Larry Harris, PA-C, MPAS
Larry Harris is a physician sssistant with more than 25 years of medical experience. He earned his bachelor's degree at Howard University and his masters degree at the University of Nebraska. Larry is a member of the Association of Neurosurgical Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA). He has several years experience in the academic setting and was director of Madigan Army Medical Center's Physician Assistant Emergency Medicine fellowship program. Larry is a retired Army officer.
Summer Landers, PA-C, MPA
Summer earned her bachelor's of science in biology at High Point University and masters of physician assistant at Medical College of Georgia. Summer is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Since graduating from the physician assistant program she has practiced in critical care and pulmonology. Summer recently transitioned to neurosurgery and is honored to be a part of Charleston Neurosurgical Associates.
Joe McTavish, PA-C
A certified physician assistant, Mr. McTavish has expertise in providing non-operative spine care treatment to patients with cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine pain. He earned his degree in physical education and health with a concentration in exercise science from the College of Charleston, and completed his master’s degree in physician assistant studies at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He has also received extensive training in the doctorate of physical therapy program at MUSC.
James Pavao, PA-C
Jim Pavao is a physician assistant in orthopedics and neurosurgery. He received his undergraduate degree from Clemson University and his physician assistant degree from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA).

Rose Trageser, PA-C
Rose Trageser is a physician assistant with more than ten years of medical experience. She earned her bachelor's of science degree at The Pennsylvania State University and her masters of medical science degree from Arcadia University. Since graduation from PA school she has worked in the specialty of neurosurgery. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) and the South Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants (SCAPA).
Mollyrose Milewski, PA-C
Mollyrose earned her Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina State University, where she graduated as valedictorian and was inducted into The Phi Beta Kappa Society. She received her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at the Medical University of South Carolina. She is a member of the South Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants (SCAPA) as well as the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA). Mollyrose enjoys building a relationship with patients from their initial visit and diagnosis through their subsequent treatment and recovery.
